About ABACAS
ABACAS is a specialist school for children with autism located in Kilbarrack and serving the need for autism specific education in North County Dublin. ABACAS was established as the second CABAS school in Ireland in 2001 by parents of children with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) as a means to provide autism specific early intervention ABA and now caters for 30 children. We currently have two sister schools in Drogheda, Co. Louth and Kilnamannagh, South Dublin.
School Ethos
ABACAS provides a child-centred approach to teaching children with autism. We feel that ABA is the best method for delivering this education which should incorporate elements of whatever curricula best meet the needs of the individual. The principle reason for this is that ABA facilitates the moment to moment monitoring of a child's progress at everything they are learning, whether it is progress in toilet training, reading, or mainstream participation.
Individual Programme Design
The ABACAS model of education for each child brings together elements from numerous curricula considered most appropriate for each individual child. We feel that ABA is the best means to deliver education for children with autism which should include elements of TEACHH, the National School Curriculum (NSC), Occupational Therapy (OT), Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) and others as deemed appropriate for the individual child.
